And there were shepherds living out in the fields nearby, keeping watch over their flocks at night. An angel of the Lord appeared to them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them, and they were terrified. But the angel said to them, Do not be afraid. I bring you good news of great joy that will be for all the people.
There you are, going about your daily routine washing your dishes, teaching your class, watching your children, trying to keep the wolves away from your sheep and Heaven interrupts you to announce good news, to show you a new possibility. It's scary, but it's irresistible. This is our dream for our neighborhood north of Howard, our dream for all people -- that God would be constantly breaking into the everyday and transforming it. This year, fifteen current and former residents of the Jonquil Hotel are attending college. This is a community in which a college education is rare. For each one of these people, God broke in and showed them their own strength and their own promise. For each one, God broke in and provided the opportunity and the resources. For each one, we pray, God will break in and give them a vision of how to use their education to help lift their neighbors. It's not easy. One of our young men, who first saw college as a possibility in eighth grade, said he had to overcome the prevailing view among his peers that college was for "them" the suburban kids and not for "us" in an inner-city neighborhood. But, he said, he had been taught by his grandmother that there's always someone out there who's smarter but there shouldn't be anyone out there who works harder. Sometimes the angel of the Lord who announces a new possibility is a grandmother. Many of you have responded to God's call, bringing good news with your prayers, your volunteer time, and your funds. You have helped bring hope and promise to a place where the wolves are still a threat. We are grateful to God for your partnership and pray that you will continue to work with us to bring God's Good News breaking into the world. Bud Ogle, President |

Dear Partner of Good News,
We are always eager to share Good News.
This Easter season we celebrate Christ’s resurrection in tangible ways. God continues to heal and reveal as new life breaks out all over. Healing, recovery, job opportunities, permanent housing – dreams are being realized.
We delight in offering you an exciting opportunity. Please pray, talk with friends, consider ways it may be a blessing for you to help ten more families escape homelessness.
With the generous help of the Lloyd Family and Martel Foundations, Good News Partners has just signed a contract to purchase a 10-flat building at 7625-29 North Bosworth.
Good News Partners has made an initial equity investment of $200,000. Harris Bank Winnetka is providing an $800,000 mortgage. In order to keep monthly rents at a level, which our very low-income families can afford, we need to reduce the mortgage to $500,000. We are calling the difference between the $800,000 mortgage and the $500,000 permanent affordability our “Bridge Financing”.
Our goal is to empower ten low-income families to be able to realize their dream of permanent affordable housing. For each $30,000 we raise, we can provide bridge financing for one family’s home. With each $30,000 one hard working low income family’s mortgage will be reduced so that they will be able to thrive and no longer be at risk of taking an apartment they cannot afford thereby recycling into homelessness again.
You can partner with a family and Good News Partners’ support infrastructure to provide a secure, wonderful home. We are looking for donations of every size, no-interest loans or loans of at least $5,000 at 3% accruing until loan repayment 5 or 10 years from now. During the next two years we will seek funding to repay the loans from sources like the Federal Home Loan Bank. And our hope is that members of God’s household will realize the joy of participating in this great work of God’s so that we can reduce the debt the new residents will carry. This can be done through outright gifts or by forgiving a portion of your loan.
We have so much for which we thank God! The amazing array of partners brings so many blessings, surprises and opportunities. If God seems to be stirring in you about how to partner in this opportunity to make hope and housing tangible, or if you have any questions, please call Tiffany Lee at 773-764-4998 or me at 773-743-7678, or e-mail us at bud@goodnewspartners.org
We appreciate your participation in heeding God’s call to end poverty and the scourge of homelessness one more family at a time.
Thank you for your prayerful consideration,
Bud Ogle, President
