Get Involved

There’s nothing we love to hear more than people saying, “How can we be involved?”  So we are sending out a monthly Volunteer Opportunities Update so you can plan your upcoming month.  If you have any questions, please call Jan Hubbard, 773.764.4998 or e-mail

Volunteers are a vital part of Good News Partners. Each year, over 1000 volunteers help us individually or in groups. Volunteers can choose from a one-time project or longer-term activities.

Office Help
  •  Accounting or Finance help: if you can maneuver around an Excel spreadsheet or read a financial report, we could use your help a day a week or a couple of days a month.
  • Organizing files, answering the phone, greeting people as they come in the door is another way you could help a day a week or more.

Saturday Fun Days at New Life Interim Housing

These are fun family outings for the families who are residents at the GNP New Life Interim Housing facility.  Our next two Saturday activities will be September 10th and September 24th, when we will do a half-day trip to the park.

After School Tutoring Program – New Life Shelter Kids                                 Monday – Thursday 5:45 – 8:00pm

This ongoing program is led by Chicago Hopes for Kids.  They provide the mandatory training and background checks for all tutors.  Curriculum is well laid out and easy to follow.  The program provides the children with over 2 hours of homework help and tutoring.  We began with Chicago Hopes for Kids as a summer pilot program and are excited that the program will be continuing into the fall, from October 3 to December 15th

Adopt a Family – New Life Shelter Families                                            As needed

When a family has reached the end of their stay at the New Life Shelter and prepares to move into their own home, there are many expenses.  They have to set up a household and, most often, they do not have enough belongings to do this.  If you would like to help a family make their move to their own home, there are several ways to help:                                                                                        -Help supply the items in the “Starter Kit” (call for list)

-Help them with incidental expenses, gift cards for Target, Walgreens and Jewel.

-Help them physically move their furniture in.

-Provide them with dinners for their first three nights while they get unpacked.
