GNP/Church Collaborative Partners Meeting:

Our next meeting -- Monday, August 23rd at 9:30 am in The Jonquil Learning Center.  Please contact jan@goodnewspartners.org to RSVP.  Everyone is welcome!

The GNP Church Collaborative Partners (GNPCCP) are committed to the first goal of Good News Partners strategic plan --- "Improve housing opportunities for as many as possible" by working on raising funds to purchase a new building for affordable housing.  We recognize that in this real estate climate, now is the time to purchase so that we have a strong foot print in this gentrifying neighborhood and that, working together, we can make that happen.  Please join us in our efforts to end homelessness.

Rick Steves to present “Travel as Spiritual Act” at Upcoming GNP Fundraising Event

Rick Steves, National Public Television’s travel guru, has taken on a new initiative — providing homes for the homeless. Rick recalls his early days of travel when his main challenge each day was finding a safe and affordable place to sleep. He also began to learn about how a rich country’s (our country) policies can cause landlessness (which means homelessness and hunger) in an underdeveloped country, reminiscent of European feudalism. The realization that structural poverty was an almost invisible but very real by-product of American capitalism, both here and abroad, led Steve to brainstorm ways to house the local homeless in his town.

On Sunday, December 5, 2010 at 4:00 pm, Rick will speak about his sense of urgency and he and his wife’s decision “to buy a ratty duplex” adjacent to his church to house homeless moms and their kids. Eventually, the building developed a mold problem and they had to tear it down. “But to me, this was actually good mold. God was in that mold.” Come to hear how Rick heard God’s call and developed an inspired community they call “Trinity Way” in Seattle, Washington.

2010 ANNUAL DINNER - "Weaving Hope"

This year's Annual Dinner marks a milestone in our history -- a change in leadership and an opportunity to grow in our efforts to secure more affordable housing.  In addition to this exciting time of rejoicing in God's work and planning for the future, we were privileged to have the Chicago Chamber Choir provide a benefit performance.
