New Life Interim Housing Renovation Project

At New Life Interim Housing we have met many wonderful mothers who have gone through difficult times to keep their children safe, even experiencing hunger and homelessness. Your generous contributions and volunteer help has brought relief and safety to thousands of families over New Life’s 30 years. Because of your dedication to New Life, we want to share with you the exciting news that the New Life building will be completely renovated through a grant opportunity from Design 4 Dignity.

Why is now the best time for renovation?

As you know, the New Life Shelter has helped thousands of families – primarily women and children – since it opened in 1991. We have all watched the news with concern over the many hardships people have faced over this last year and a half. And it’s not going to ease up soon. Here is a way you make a difference, as a partner in this ministry. This will be New Life’s first “full scale” renovation and you are invited to be a part of it.

What this means for families struggling with homelessness

The new space will include:

  • A brand new facility, from pipes for plumbing to upgraded building standards

  • New double door secure entrance

  • Completely upgraded separate family bathrooms

  • New counseling, training and computer space

  • New playroom for kids with viewing space adjacent

  • Fully renovated kitchen with island and lounging area

  • New beds, dining tables and furniture throughout

  • New mental health counseling program will be piloted

  • Air conditioning and upgrading of all mechanical systems

This renovation will provide a safe and healthy facility for families in transition. Comfortable sleeping areas away from public areas with homey comfort. Computer and counseling areas to work on the next important steps in their lives as they move toward more permanent housing.

Financial Update!

Rep. Jan Schakowsky has secured federal funds for our New Life Shelter renovation! On April 13th, Congresswoman Jan Schakowsky visited Good News Partners to announce that we were selected to receive $450,000 to go towards our shelter renovation! We are 1 of only 10 other organizations in the 9th Congressional district to receive community funding thanks to our congresswoman. We are now able to begin construction!!

We are still in need of extra funds to cover furniture and any unexpected issues that may come up during the renovation. Gifts of any size will make a difference. Thank you in advance. We are almost there!

We need community volunteers

We have moved our New Life residents to a new location and we are thankful to all our community volunteers for helping to make this happen. We are always in need of more volunteers to help with projects in our Jonquil Hotel! If interested, please click the button below.
